Atopic Dermatitis is a common type of eczema associated with irritated, red, itchy, and sensitive skin. Many patients develop this condition in childhood, but it can possibly arise at any time in life. For many patients, there is an obvious inherited component. Atopic dermatitis is often associated with allergies and asthma, called the allergic triad. While many patients can control the rashes and symptoms with topical steroids, this is only a short-term fix for relief. Overall, it is difficult to cure this condition, although many patients outgrow it at puberty.
